Macro has a Free plan and two paid plans. Paid plans are priced per seat. Max also includes priority support, and paid plans remove the Macro watermark from emails you send. Paid teams require a paid seat for every member. Free teams can include unpaid members. Each seat has its own plan, so a team can mix Pro and Max seats. Team admins set each member’s plan from the Seat plan menu in Settings → Team. Seat changes are prorated. Settings → Billing shows your current plan:
  • Free: Get Pro and Get Max
  • Pro: Upgrade to Max
  • Max: Switch to Pro
On a team, these buttons change only your seat.

AI usage

Each seat includes a monthly amount of AI usage. Agent chats and AI document editing count toward it. Unused usage does not transfer between seats or roll over. Free uses Gemini 3.8 Flash. The Free allowance is a hard cap. AI requests pause until the next calendar month or an upgrade. Settings → Usage shows Monthly limit as a percentage of included usage. When a paid seat’s included usage runs out, AI requests pause until you add credits or upgrade:
  • Usage credits: prepaid usage. Settings → Usage → Add more adds $25, $50, or $100. Credits are used after included usage and roll over.
  • Automatic reload: buys credits when the balance falls below Minimum balance, up to Target balance, with an optional Maximum monthly spend. If a charge fails, update the payment method and save the settings to retry.
  • Max: 10× the included usage of Pro. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated.
On a team, the paying account buys credits and controls automatic reload. Other members can view usage but not change these settings.

Managing your subscription

Subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Settings → Billing → Manage opens the billing portal to update payment methods, download invoices, or cancel. Cancelled plans stay active until the end of the billing period.

Self-hosting

Macro is open source under the AGPLv3, and self-hosting is free, though some bundled services require your own licenses and it isn’t our primary focus yet. See the FAQ for the current state of self-hosting, and contact licensing@macro.com if you want to build on Macro under a different license.
